How to Pack for a Vacation in St. Barts
Posted on October 06 2016
It can be so difficult to pick the best options in an overflowing closet. After all, you need to think about what you’ll do, what the weather will be like, how many outfit changes you’ll do during the day…
If it all sounds like too much, you could just stop by Poupette St-Barth’s boutique in Gustavia when you arrive— we could set you up with a trendy island wardrobe in no time! I’m somewhat kidding, of course, but we would love to have you visit while you are in town.
Following are a few packing tips to keep in mind for your trip to St-Barts—or other Caribbean Islands, though St. Barts is truly the best (we may be a little biased).
Pack for the season
If you’re visiting from North America (like most of St. Barts’ visitors!), you’re probably used to thinking of seasons as Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring. It’s not quite the same in the Caribbean, however! Here, the seasons are roughly split between Wet (May-Nov.) and Dry (Dec.-Apr.) seasons. Temperatures tend to be high all year (hurray!), and most days are beautifully sunny, but more rain is expected in the Wet (especially in September and October). Also, remember that you’ll often be by the water or be tempted to go sailing, so keep in mind the possibility of wind!
- Swimwear is a must, but we’re sure you knew that already!
- Barts is warm all year, so go for lightweight, breathable, flowing items. Natural fibers such as cotton, silk or linen are good options. In St. Barts, dresses, rompers, shorts and mini tops are ideal all year!
- Bring a lightweight rain jacket or umbrella, especially if you’re traveling in the Wet (May-Nov.).
- Bring a cardigan or two, but don’t go overboard! You probably won’t need them all that often. Instead, bring shawls or scarfs: they’re fabulous accent pieces, take up very little room in a suitcase and can warm you up if there’s a breeze!
It’s all in the details, so don’t forget to accessorize
As we just mentioned, scarfs are great to have! But don’t forget to bring all kinds of accessories to glitz up your look. We’re big fans of boho-chic, and that means layering multiple pieces of jewelry. No stress or worries to be had, here, about walking around with your jewelry. In fact, did you know that St. Barts is one of the safest (maybe even THE safest) islands in the Caribbean?
And the most important tip…
Make sure to leave some room in your suitcase! Avoid overpacking. You will thank us when you’re trying to fit in the many treasures you pick up during your island shopping excursions!
Fun travels everyone!
