French architecture, luxury stores, delicious cuisine… Yes, St Barts has it all. We all know why travelers come from very far away to discover the island: white sand, clear water and wonders under the sea… One common goal: discover the wonderful beaches of the West Indies.
The sexiest island of the Caribbean has 22 beaches and you need a whole month to see them all. If you cannot stay that long, we have listed 5 unavoidable beaches to help you choose where to lay on the sand.
The touristic one: plage de Colombier
Probably the most famous of them all, Colombier is the home of billionaire David Rockefeller. The beach is only accessible by boat or foot which can discourage a lot of travelers. If you are lucky and come on the right day, you can have the beach to yourself. But during the tourist season, the horizon is filled with magnificent yachts and the sand is quickly crowded. Still, the panorama stays amazing, and the Anse of Colombier is part of the natural marine reserve of the island. Grab your snorkels and swimming fins!
The luxurious one: plage de Saint-Jean
Center of water sport activities in St Barts, the beach houses, the Eden Rock, the famous celebrity hotel. The well-know white and red beach building overlooks the landscape on its great rock. Surrounded with restaurants, you can easily spend the entire day there to tan, make paddleboarding and eat delicious food next to the most glamorous celebrities.
The spectacular one: natural pool of Petit-Cul-De-Sac
Ever wanted to swim in a pool made by Mother Nature? You will have to deserve it! Not easy to access, the natural pool is worth the trip. Ask a local to take you there to discover the pond naturally made in the rock. The water of the pool is alimented by the waves, so do not put yourself in danger during rough sea.
The Surfers’ one: plage de Lorient
Located on the North of the island, Lorient is the perfect spot for surfers. Whether you plan on surfing or just want to observe them pitting against the waves, this is the perfect place to be. Competitions are organized all year long. But athletes are not the only privileged here: some areas protected from the current are perfect for swimming and snorkeling.
The authentic one: plage de Corossol
The brown sand of Corossol is sown with fishing boats, traditional « doris » and pirogues. Every Sunday, fishermen go fishing and bring back delicious fresh seafood. Not as invaded by tourism as Colombier or Saint-Jean, the little village stayed authentic and warm. Perfect to avoid all the crowd during the high season.
